Community Engagement

Xcel Energy is committed to working with the Denver community to develop the Poder Substation Project. We will be discussing the Project with local residents, community members and other stakeholders and gathering input about the colors, materials and aesthetic design of the wall that will enclose the substation through multiple community meetings. Meeting information and a design survey will be posted to this page in the coming weeks.

Substation Wall Design

In the past, our substation walls were constructed to meet City of Denver requirements using materials like steel chain link fence or plain concrete walls.

More recently, we’ve started building substations with materials that are more in line with the aesthetics of the surrounding community. On contemporary projects, we have used brick and stone veneer, sails, concrete, metal screens and other materials to enclose our substations. Landscaping, murals and other artworks have also been integrated into substation wall design.
